GRIMANESA AMORÓS: The Mirror Connection
Light Sculpture Installation

June 2nd, 2013 through June 22nd , 2013

2013 Beijing: CAFA Art Museum and China Arts and Entertainment Group are proud to present The Mirror Connection, a light sculpture installation from a recent series of works by Peruvian artist Grimanesa Amorós, opening June 2nd, 2013 and running through June 22nd, 2013. This event is co-organized by the Ministry of Culture of China and the Embassy of the Republic of Peru to China.

Grimanesa Amorós (born in Lima, Peru) is an interdisciplinary artist with diverse interests in the fields of social history, scientific research and critical theory, which have greatly influenced her work. She makes use of sculpture, video, and lighting to create works that illuminate our notions of personal identity and community.

For Amorós’s art, modern technology, gives us the power of information, connection, and creation. She wants to explore the duality of the culture of ancient spirituality and modern technology. “We take the power of our technology for granted, yet 3,000 years ago they would have been considered divine”.

Grimanesa Amorós talks About the Mirror Connection

“When I entered the CAFA Art Museum in Beijing, designed by architect Arata Isozkaki, I was absorbed into the luminosity, expansion, and purity of the lines Isozkaki created in the lobby. It made me think museums in general are not just for exhibitions, but places where artists can produce new ideas and challenges to share with our viewers. I take this opportunity to bring together different facets of my creative process, including my inclination towards asymmetrical balance and my search for movement and infinite lightness, like what I felt in the lobby of the CAFA Art Museum. My interests come together in The Mirror Connection, a piece where we make connections with ourselves, the space, and the artwork.”
